For many centuries the Church has celebrated devotions to Our Blessed Lady during the month of May.
Many recall the prayers written in Mary's praise such as the Memorare and the Litany of Loreto. But why is Mary 'Queen of the May'?
In his ‘'Meditations and Devotions' Cardinal Newman reflects that no other month could in his case be more worthy; nature has clothed herself in verdant display and spangled herself with flowers. It is also joyous Eastertide when Mary received consolation after her sorrows and we await the promise of summer, just as Mary was the dawning of God's promise of salvation. ~ Fr. Paul Dobson
