6TH SUNDAY OF EASTER

Today, the last Sunday before the Feast of the Ascension, Our Lord tells His disciples that He is about to leave the world to return to the Father. But this does not mean that the disciples will be bereaved of His presence; He promises to send the Holy Spirit, who will lead Our Lord’s followers into all truth, and who will make the risen Lord present in his Body, the Church. For it is only with the promised coming of the Holy Spirit that Christ’s followers can be formed into a single body, that is, into the mystical Body of Christ. Moreover, this same Holy Spirit will give the disciples a new under-standing of the relationship between God the Father and God the Son, and thereby enable all Christ’s followers to share in that relationship.
