We call today’s feast the “Birthday of the Church” because the outpouring of the Holy Spirit marked the beginning of the Apostles’ mission to the world, a mission which the Church on earth still continues in every age and place, so that all peoples may be given the opportunity to know and love Christ our Lord, and find the one way to the Father.
When we were baptised, the Holy Spirit Himself took “possession of our souls and made them all His own”.
When we were confirmed, the same Holy Spirit strengthened what He had already begun in us at baptism.
That same Spirit of God, who is Love, is poured into our hearts day by day through prayer and the Sacraments of Penance and the Holy Eucharist. May the Holy Spirit continue to renew in the whole Church the gifts that He first gave at Pentecost Creed. ~ Fr. Paul Dobson.
