ALL SAINTS’ DAY & ALL SOULS’ DAY: OUR HOPE IN ETERNAL LIFE November 1, 2026

Posted : Oct-28-2026

As we celebrate All Saints’ Day on November 1, the Church lifts our eyes to heaven and reminds us of the beautiful truth at the heart of our faith: we are made for God. We are called to holiness—not because we are perfect, but because God is merciful, faithful, and able to transform every heart that opens itself to Him.

The saints were ordinary men and women who welcomed the extraordinary love of God. They knew weakness, suffering, and struggle, yet they trusted in Jesus. Their lives proclaim to us that holiness is possible when we allow Christ to love us, forgive us, and lead us. They are not distant heroes; they are our brothers and sisters, praying for us and encouraging us to keep our eyes fixed on our true homeland: heaven.

On All Souls’ Day, November 2, we lovingly remember those who have died. We carry them in our hearts: their love, their sacrifices, their laughter, and the precious moments we shared. Grief is real, and the separation brought by death can be deeply painful. Yet we do not grieve without hope. Jesus Christ entered our death, bore its darkness upon the Cross, and rose victorious on Easter morning. Because He lives, death does not have the final word.

Pope Benedict XVI expressed this hope beautifully: “Today we renew the hope in eternal life, truly founded on Christ’s death and Resurrection.” Our hope rests not in ourselves or in our achievements, but in the mercy of the Risen Lord, who desires that none of His children be lost.

These two holy days belong together. On All Saints’ Day, we rejoice with those already in the glory of heaven. On All Souls’ Day, we pray with love for those being purified and entrusted to God’s mercy. Together, they reveal the Communion of Saints: one family in Christ, united by a love stronger than death.

May these sacred days renew our faith in Jesus, the Resurrection and the Life. May they console all who mourn, strengthen our prayer for the faithful departed, and awaken in us a deeper desire for heaven. One day, by God’s grace, may we be gathered with all those we love at the eternal banquet of His Kingdom.                                                           ~ Fr. Carlos Torres
